Grow Flow Guide
Updated over a year ago

Disclaimer

Starting August 16th, 2023, Grow Flow will no longer be available for new users and won’t receive technological support from our side (basically, we won’t be addressing any potential bugs or issues or allowing new users to join the Grow Flow experience).

As a current Grow Flow user, we are happy to provide you with guidance while using the tool. You can still contact us at [email protected] or via live chat, available by clicking the bottom-right corner icon.

If you are a Grow Flow user already and you're happy with it - don’t worry! You can keep using the domains you already purchased and even add new ones as long as you want. Nothing will change on your end.

Why are we pivoting, then?

We spent almost all of 2022 working on bringing Grow Flow to you.

When we say the hopes were high, we really mean it - we wanted to revolutionize the way we all work with on-page SEO and create an all-in-one SEO growth management platform that would make SEO accessible for literally anyone who owns a domain, regardless of previous SEO experience.

And we were close. Really, really close.

But we can do better.

Much better.

We want to direct our energy towards building things that don't just make our users happy but ecstatic. Grow Flow is good. What we build next will be great.

Thank you all for your support and feedback since Grow Flow was released. New is scary, but you all took a leap of faith, and it meant the world to us!

We’re already cooking up even better ways to provide you with a clear pathway to smarter, simpler SEO growth, so keep your eyes open for our new product releases!

What is required to create a Grow Flow project?

To connect your domain to Grow Flow, you need the following:

  • to be an active Grow Flow user (at least 1 project connected)

  • a domain that generates at least 100 impressions per day

  • a Google Search Console with the domain connected as a property

  • the same Google Search Console integrated with your Surfer account

To create a new Grow Flow project, you will need to purchase a Grow Flow slot to connect to a domain. 1 Grow Flow slot costs $9, but you can purchase as many slots as you want if you have multiple high impression domains. If you're on a Max plan, your plan already comes with 1 free Grow Flow slot.

Surfer will only pull the domains from your Google Search Consoles that are generating enough traffic to generate the tasks, so please first make sure that your domain does meet these criteria.

Connecting Google Search Console

To connect your Google Search Console to Surfer, go here and click the Sign in with Google button.

Note: You can purchase and add as many domains as you need from multiple Google Search Accounts, and your Surfer login e-mail does not have to be the same as the one you want to connect.

When connecting your Google Search Console, remember to grant Surfer all required permissions. Otherwise, we will not be able to pull all the necessary data.

Creating a project

With your Google Search Console properly connected, you should now see your domain available to connect to Grow Flow. If there is more than one property for the same domain in your Google Search Console (for example, one with www and without www), we will pull the one that generates more traffic.

Choose the domain(s) you would like to connect to Grow Flow.

The next step is selecting your targeted location. Surfer will present you with a list of only those locations where your domain is already making at least 100 impressions daily. We need this traffic to be able to provide you with relevant tasks.

If both the domain and the location are selected properly, click the "Add" button at the bottom, then you will be directed to a checkout page where you can pay for the domain slots you have added. You will be billed immediately for the slots you just purchased. Connected projects can only be removed by the Support Team - don't hesitate to reach out to us via live chat or at [email protected].

Project navigation

Once your domain has been connected, you can move to the project dashboard by choosing the project on the left-side panel or by selecting "See tasks" on the right side.

You are all set - you can now go through your tasks list for your project. Once you finish your first task, your report should be generated within 2 weeks.

Task distribution and management

Surfer will provide you with a fresh set of tasks each week. With each refresh, you can expect at least a few new tasks, but as your domain grows and we get more valuable data, you may start getting bigger batches.

You can "dismiss" the ones that you do not like or "mark as done" the ones that you completed. The growth of your domain, as well as dismissing, skipping, or marking a task as done, are all taken into consideration in our calculations, and your future suggestions will be getting more and more accurate thanks to this data.

"Write and publish an article" task

With this task, Surfer will automate building the topical authority for your page based on clustering methods and the identified content gaps within your own domain.

Surfer will present you with a set of topics to cover. If you see one that you would like to work on and publish on your website, simply click Start, and the Content Editor will be generated for you.

Note: Every “Write and Publish an Article” task will deduct one CE credit from your monthly/annual credit pool.

You can access all Content Editors made through Grow Flow both on your project page as well as via your Content Editor dashboard.

You can also use the shuffle icon to see what else we prepared, and after shuffling your topic a few times, you will be able to choose your own keyword. Just as if you would be creating your own Content Editor.

What's even better is that your future "write and publish an article" tasks should now cover more topics related to the entered keyword.

After entering your desired keyword, click "Start" to proceed to create a Content Editor article.

Once you're done and your article has been published, remember to mark it as published - this will allow Surfer to track the growth more accurately and present you with valuable data in your report.

"Insert link" task

Your domain changes as you add more content and create new subpages. Surfer will use the Google algorithm to help you find opportunities to build your internal linking net.

"Add missing keywords" task

Google is excellent at analyzing content, and it can rank your page for keywords you had no idea about. Surfer will identify those keywords and present them to you so that you can use their power to your advantage.

"Review competitors' backlinks" task

This task is powered by the Semrush and Surfer integration! Each week, you’ll get a list of backlinks your competitors have recently acquired. You can use these insights to adjust, update, or improve your own link-building strategy.

You will need to connect your Semrush account - a paid or a freemium one, and that's pretty much it - Surfer will take care of the rest!
