Brand Knowledge

Teach Surfer about your business to ensure all AI-generated content reflects your brand and stays true to your goals.

Updated this week

What is Brand Knowledge?

Brand Knowledge helps Surfer’s AI-powered features understand your brand identity, goals, and audience - ensuring every piece of content is created with your brand in mind.

It will help you:

  1. Stay on intent - Your articles match the purpose you set, whether that’s driving conversions, educating readers, or ranking for a specific intent.

  2. Represent your brand accurately - AI automatically prioritizes your business, product, or service in place of random or competing brands.

  3. Maintain content integrity - Facts and examples come from relevant, brand-aligned sources instead of competitor data.

In short, Brand Knowledge keeps your AI writing focused, accurate, and true to your brand’s message.

How to set it up?

  1. Go to Settings⚙️→ Brand Knowledge in your Surfer account.

  2. Set up a name & choose how to create your Brand Knowledge:

  3. Surfer will automatically generate details such as:

    • Business description

    • Industry or service type

    • Topics and target audience

    • Competitors

  4. Review and customize it freely - edit, remove or add your own sections.

💡Currently, the limit for defined Brand Knowledges is one per organization, however, you can update it anytime as your business evolves.

There’s no limit on how many times you can regenerate Brand Knowledge, but you need to wait about 2 minutes before generating a new version.

Where you can use Brand Knowledge

Once you define your Brand Knowledge, it is enabled by default when creating a new AI article or a Content Editor query. You can keep it on or use the "Disable this time option".

The Brand Knowledge also enhances multiple AI-powered features within the Content Editor, such as:

  • Surfy Assistant

  • Auto-Optimize

  • Insert Outline

How to enable it in existing Content Editors

You can apply your existing Brand Knowledge to Editors created before you set it up:

  1. Open your Content Editor.

  2. Check the top-right corner:

    • If you see your Brand Name next to the book icon - it’s active.

    • If you only see “Brand Knowledge”, click it to enable your brand profile for that specific draft.

Tips to get the most out of Brand Knowledge

  • Create your Brand Knowledge profile as soon as possible, in order to enhance the accuracy of your future Surfer queries.

  • Keep it updated whenever your site, niche, or messaging changes.

  • Add specific writing instructions (e.g., avoid competitor mentions, include your unique terms).

  • Use the Edit or Disable this time options when you want to customize per project.

💡All AI tools will always use the current version of your Brand Knowledge. If you replace your profile (e.g., from Brand Knowledge X to Brand Knowledge Y), even older Editors will automatically switch to the new one.
