Brand Knowledge helps Surfer’s AI-powered features understand your brand identity, goals, and audience - ensuring every piece of content is created with your brand in mind.
Stay on intent - Your articles match the purpose you set, whether that’s driving conversions, educating readers, or ranking for a specific intent.
Represent your brand accurately - AI automatically prioritizes your business, product, or service in place of random or competing brands.
Maintain content integrity - Facts and examples come from relevant, brand-aligned sources instead of competitor data.
In short, Brand Knowledge keeps your AI writing focused, accurate, and true to your brand’s message.
You will be prompted to add your Brand Knowledge right after creating a new Workspace at Surfer.
If you already created a Workspace before and want to review your Brand Knowledge, go to Settings > Workspace > Brand Knowledge.
Surfer will automatically generate details such as:
Business description
Industry or service type
Topics and target audience
Competitors

Review and customize it freely - edit, remove or add your own sections - hit save when you’re ready or come back later to add more details.

Once you define your Brand Knowledge, it is enabled by default when creating a new Content Editor query. However, if you do not want to use it for a specific article, you can disable it at the 4th step of the query creation.

The Brand Knowledge also enhances multiple AI-powered features within the Content Editor, such as:
Surfy Assistant
Auto-Optimize
Insert Outline
Once a query was created without Brand Knowledge, there is no option to enable it. If you created a query without Brand Knowledge as a mistake, you will need to create a new Content Editor document.
Create your Brand Knowledge profile as soon as possible, in order to enhance the accuracy of your future Surfer queries.
Keep it updated whenever your site, niche, or messaging changes.
Add specific writing instructions (e.g., avoid competitor mentions, include your unique terms).
Use the Edit or Disable this time options when you want to customize per project.
All AI tools will always use the current version of your Brand Knowledge. If you replace your profile (e.g., from Brand Knowledge X to Brand Knowledge Y), even older Editors will automatically switch to the new one.
You can add one Brand Knowledge per workspace.
The number of Brand Knowledges you can have in total depends on how many workspaces are included in your plan. For example, the Standard plan includes 1 workspace, while higher plans (like Pro) allow multiple workspaces, each with its own Brand Knowledge.
