Step 1: How to add Google Search Console to Surfer

A step-by-step workflow for adding your GSC to Surfer to enrich your recommendations

Updated today

💡 Why is this important?

This is where the real magic starts. Connecting GSC to Surfer lets us pull in your actual site data—so we’re not just guessing what to fix, write, or link. We know.

Google Search Console is the main source of information about your website performance. Surfer is using this data to give you better insights, recommend which existing content should be re-optimized, suggest new content ideas and help you track your results from a single place.

❓ What’s in it for you? Once you connect GSC, Surfer will:

  • 🔍 Show your full SEO performance dashboard with Surfer insights and metrics pulled from GSC

  • 🔁 Audit and suggest updates for existing content to quickly improve rankings and keep your content ranking over time

  • 🧠 Build a Topical Map based on what’s already ranking vs. where your content gaps are

  • 🔗 Suggest internal links inside the Content Editor—with a single click, for any article

One connection. Four killer features.

🛠️ What you’ll need:

Just your Surfer account and access to the Google account that owns your GSC.

💡 You can connect multiple GSC properties and GSC accounts to Surfer — this is especially useful if you manage several websites, work with multiple clients, or have different projects organized under separate accounts.

📆 When to do it and how often?

ASAP. This is a one-time setup. After that, Surfer syncs new data automatically—no maintenance needed.

Prepare

  1. Make sure you’ve already set up your GSC and verified your site. If not, do that first → How to setup Google Search Console.

Step-by-step

  1. In Surfer, open Settings in the left-bottom corner.

  2. Click Google Search Console.

  3. Click Add Google Account.

  4. Next, you will be prompted to connect your Google Account to Surfer:

    1. First, you need to pick which account you want to connect. Make sure to select the one with your domain added as a verified property.

    2. Next, approve permissions (mark all checkboxes), and boom—you’re done.

💡 Step 3 is also the place where you can manage your GSC accounts after connecting them, e.g., to remove integration or to add more accounts. There’s no limit to how many Google Accounts you can connect to your Surfer account.

Note: If your website targets multiple languages or countries under the same domain (for example, using subfolders like /en/ for English and /fr/ for French), it's recommended to set up separate GSC properties for each language or country section.

This allows you to monitor search performance, indexing issues, and user behavior for each audience more accurately. Alternatively, you can use GSC filters, but separate properties provide the most precise control and insights.
